Exempt Summary of Position The Project Engineering Manager (PEM) is responsible for overseeing the project engineering department.
The PEM will lead, manage, and hold the project engineering department accountable for their goals and objectives.
The overall goal of the PEM is to lead the development & launch of new products.
The PEM is responsible for ensuring the project engineering team develops and manages new projects that are on-time, on-budget, and successful in production.
The PEM oversees technical quotations, DFM, tooling procurement, and provides technical support across the organization.
The PEM is responsible for making sure that the project engineering team operates in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authority Promotes actions in accordance with the company's core values by leading through example.
Maintains alignment of the team to the company's core focus.
Addresses employee issues immediately and directly.
Reviews employee performance on a regular basis.
Sets goals and objectives for each direct report.
Holds each team member accountable for their individual metrics.
Escalates issues up or down the accountability chart when necessary.
Assists in maintaining alignment between departments throughout the quoting, development, and launch processes.
Discovers and implements ways to continuously improve the overall process of developing and launching new products.
Hires, fires, trains, mentors, coaches, and develops employees.
Provides technical assistance, feedback, and recommendations to the project engineers and tooling engineering team.
Constantly looking for continuous improvement opportunities at all levels of the organization.
Helps prioritize projects and activities of the project engineering team.
Completes quotations and provides technical support to the sales team.
Ensures projects are being managed appropriately and effectively by coaching the engineering team in accordance with the New Product Development process.
Oversees the engineering budget.
Helps prioritize and manage engineering resource levels.
Follows Sussex IM's environmental policies to protect and minimize our impact on the environment.
Maintains a safe 5S working environment to minimize the possibility of an injury.
Acts in a safe manner at all times and ensures that those around them do not put themselves or others at risk.
Reports any unsafe conditions to a manager.
Performs other related duties and assignments as assigned or required.
Required Education, Credentials, & Certifications Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or similar technical field Job Specification Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
Minimum 8 years of manufacturing experience.
Minimum 8 years of experience in plastic injection molding Preferred minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficiency in all areas of injection molding including materials, processing, tooling, and part design.
Experience with injection molding simulation and optimization.
Knowledge of new product development processes and best practices.
Proficiency in project management practices.
Proficiency in mathematics and/or statistics and problem-solving.
Experience with computer software and data entry.
Good technical writing skills and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Displays a good sense of urgency.
Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
Proficiency in leadership skills and abilities.
